Day one to Laguardia

 9/21/25

We all woke up this morning feeling a little fragile, must have had something to do with last night, never the less, it was time to walk

We headed to Oyon were the trail officially starts and headed out towards to mountain

It was a cool , blustery day , with a hint of rain in the air.  As it turned out, that was perfect for a day one hike, as we stayed cool most of the day.

This is NO Camino, that’s for sure. I’ve been spoiled with all the casinos as there is always a coffee/pastry shop every hour or two, on this trail, no such luck. I wasn’t carrying enough liquids for the long haul and all the hills, I’ll know better tomorrow.

Hulooooo

We climbed through vineyard after vineyard as we headed into the mountains, but most of the trail was on secondary roads, I love walking the single tracks more, but these roads were so quiet, hardly ever encountered a car or bike all day.

Bill couldn’t wait for them to harvest the crop

Was unusual tp see grapes on the vine as its late in the season

I caught this little fella chasing the girls up a hill

The girls did great, especially Kimberley who I was new to carrying a pack and hiking a long distance. I wasn’t really proud of her ,, ok I was ,as she had the best attitude, even when the going was tough

I have to admit, the two years of little or no excessive during my knee recuperation was showing, after awhile, I stopped worrying about Kimberley and start to doubt my own ability and stamina.

A long long hill ,Kimberley wasn’t talking to me

Ok, made the top, she’s talking to me again

I’ve done enough of this kind of walking, and I know that all these ancient medieval towns in Spain were built on top of hills to protect against raiding parties, and I knew it, this town would be no different. The last thing I needed was another freaking hill today, but there it was, a town on the top of a hill

Look at us, we found another hill

Our home for tonight, the town of LAGUARDIA

Decided to stop at this local winery for late lunch, before the final climb

This place if stunning, so once we settled into our home for the night, we went out exploring the narrow medieval alleys and town squares, have dinner of pintxos {pinchos}, a beer and couldn’t get to a shower and bed quick enough.

Photos from our stroll through LaGuardia

Tomorrow is a longer day. So we ate pintxos and had a beer, then early night

Yum yum
