Durango toGuernica

 9/26/25

The town of Durango was a medium sized town with a river winding through it. Not a lot of interesting history but interesting to just stroll around in and take in the sites

We studied the route for today and according to the experts online, this was the hardest day of the entire 103 miles, with steep downhills, loose rock and lots of mud. Then Patty did some local research an discovered that there had been a lot of industrial activity up in the mountains which had destroyed some of the trail, I’m guessing it was a logging concern.

We all decided it wasn’t worth the gamble, and I certainly wasnt going to risk getting hurt, we we took a rest day and took the train to Guernica

This is a pretty small town, we are getting near the coast to what was once villages. Are now towns with bigger populations. We spent the day walking the city streets and enjoying some down times, tomorrow is the final stretch.

This is a tile reproduction of PICASSOS guernica portrait which was inspired by the Fascist bombing of this town during the Spanish civil war, where approximately 70% of the town was destroyed.
When I see a Picasso, I think of a man who has nightmares.

Just a little friend on the way.
