Vitoriato Ochandiano

 9/24/25

Well, there’s a story to be told today, we looked over the terrain map and I decided to listen to my doctors and just listen to my body.

There was one vicious climb, and likewise a difficult decent, so Kim and I took a different route so not to damage my knees.

We all said goodbye and would meet up at the lodge in Ochandiano this evening, and Kimberley and I took off, leaving the others to conquer the mountain. Once we established our route with the GPS, off we went laughing as we joked about how funny it would be if we went the wrong way and met Bill and Patty coming towards us, hilarious idea.

Anyway, we found our way through the maze of streets in this village, and headed out of town.

One of the first obstacle was these starts that were covered in moss, and went on forever, it seemed, down to the river and marked trail.

Moss covered stairs that never ended

Today’s trail was great, and Kimberley said, let’s take a photo of these damn stairs now, as the chances of ever being right here agAIN is slim to none, so we did.

Off we go, great trail through wooded forests and past countless small farms, country lanes and secondary roads.

Along the way we made new friends who were very friendly

Hey dude, all I want to do it talk to you, and she keeps poking her finger in my eys

Some of the path was a bit of a challenge, but that’s why were here I guess

After about 3 or 3.5 miles of hiking, we came to s dirt path skirting a small industrial area, this is where the trail markers were few and far between, so it got confusing for awhile, I wasn’t worried as I knew we could ask two hikers in the distance, coming towards us.

WAIT said Kimberley, that looks like Bill and Patty.

To say my heart dropped, would be the truth, then we hugged it out and laughed our heads off, which of course lessened the load. And I am now resigned to the fact that Bill will never let me live that down.

When Kim and I set off, one of us (not meeeee) had inadvertently touched the “reverse trail” button, and we walked back towards the start.

What can you do, turn around and walk back 3 miles to our start point, have a cup of coffee, and make a plan.

I think the universe was talking to me and said “I don’t mind you walking about * miles today, but I don’t think I’m going to allow you to do any big climbs and descents” I listened.

Remember those friggin stairs we would most likely never see agin, well…..

Bill and Patty kept going, Kimberly and I took a buto Ochandiano, where we found our accommodation, a bit rustic but it has a bed

Waiting for the bus

Tomorrows another day, still lots of ground to cover, just hope the weather holds as it started raining on the way here and the other two got drenched.
